Spots

Overview

Age spots are also known as sun spots, liver spots and lentigos, and appear as darker patches on exposed areas, including the face. These flat lesions are caused by UV rays, which trigger the skin to produce more melanin.
There are a number of popular treatments for age spots. Skin peels use a chemical solution to remove the top layers of the epidermis, in order for fresh skin cells to heal and remove blemishes. Microdermabrasion uses sand blasted at the skin for similar results. Alternatively,  laser resurfacing offers treatment using concentrated light pulses, in order to promote healing from within.
While age spots in themselves are not harmful, they do indicate skin damage and a higher risk of skin cancer. Removal not only promotes confidence, but could potentially stop the disease from developing.
The risks of these non-invasive treatments are minimal and will be discussed with a trained clinician prior to undergoing any procedure.

White spots on face

Another common condition as we age is white spots on face. While these are sometimes a form of acne whitehead, they are often a condition called milia.
Milia occur when balls of protein, called keratin, collect under the top skin layer. They are symptomatic of mild skin trauma, or can occur at blocked or undeveloped oil glands.
Treatments for milia involve removing the upper layer of the skin (epidermis) under which the proteins and other debris are trapped. This can be done through skin peels or microdermabrasion, which uses chemical solutions or fine grains blasted at the face.
Many people with milia find them embarrassing. By removing them with these common procedures, you can regain your confidence and rid yourself of any associated discomfort.
