What is the tumescent technique?
It is basically having liposuction under local anaesthetic. You will be awake during lipsosuction. Some clients even use their smart phone to video chat with their friends. In this techniue, a large volumes of dilute local anesthetic is injected into fat. The word tumescent means swollen and firm. With this technique, the volume of fluid that is injected into fat is so large that the targeted areas become swollen and firm. The tumescent technique produces long-lasting local anesthesia of the skin and subcutaneous fat. and also makes fat removal much easier. It does not involve general anaesthetic or sedation. Thus avoiding risks of them.
There are many advantage of this technique Minimal bleeding Local anaesthetic has anti bacterial effect reducing infection risk. Local anaesthetic effect reduce pain after surgery and last up to 48 hours from procedure. Currently it is the commonest type of liposuction and suitable to be used with fat transfer.
How liposuction under local anaesthetic work?
Every person has fat cells, fat cells work as container for fat, it increases in size when we put weight and shrink when we lose weight. It is common to have members of same family complaining of excess of fat in same area for example a daughter complains of excess fat in waist and her mum the same. Sometimes these spots of fat will be resistant and will not go despite exercise and dieting. Liposuction is permanent as fat cells are removed reducing capacity of this area to store fat in future.
Who is suitable candidate for liposuction under local anaesthetic?
Healthy with no current medical concerns and when pinching fatty area between finger and index you can pinch one inch of fat.
What are the limitations of liposuction ?
Liposuction is fat removal procedure, it can not alter shape of bones or muscles. It reduces what you can pinch. We often get contacted by clients who would like to have smaller waist by removing the last rib, we believe that is unethical and we do not offer that. However if there is significant fat in this area, then liposuction will help.
