Before your treatment
We’re here to help you every step of the way. You will have a formal consultation with the consultant of your choice. During this time you will be able to explain your medical history, symptoms and any concerns you might have.
Your neurophysiologist will discuss your medical history with you and perform a thorough assessment of your condition. They will also discuss with you whether they feel any other tests are needed.
With your permission the consultant will liaise with your GP or another consultant and provide a detailed discharge summary at the end of your tests or treatment.

The procedure
Clinical neurophysiology may involve:
- Electroencephalography (EEG)
- Nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG)
- Evoked potential studies (EPS)
- Intraoperative monitoring (where available)
Aftercare
Results are sent to your referring consultant to inform diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care. Most tests are non-invasive and are done in an outpatient clinic.
