Quick answer: Lipo 360 removes stubborn fat from all the way around your midsection: the tummy, flanks, love handles and lower back. A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) removes loose, overhanging skin and can repair separated abdominal muscles. If your main concern is fat and your skin is still firm, Lipo 360 is usually the better fit. If you have loose skin, stretch marks below the belly button or a bulge from muscle separation, a tummy tuck is more likely to give you the result you want.
What Lipo 360 does
Lipo 360 treats the torso as one unit rather than a single area. Fat is removed from the front, sides and back, which creates a more defined waist and a smoother outline from every angle.
- Best for: people near a stable weight with pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise.
- Skin: works best when your skin has good elasticity and can shrink back after the fat is removed.
- Scars: small entry points of a few millimetres, usually hidden in natural creases.
What a tummy tuck does
A tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen and, when needed, stitches the stomach muscles back together. It is often chosen after pregnancy or significant weight loss.
- Best for: loose or hanging skin, stretch marks on the lower tummy, or a persistent bulge caused by muscle separation (diastasis recti).
- Skin: it is the only one of the two that physically removes skin.
- Scars: a horizontal scar low on the abdomen, usually placed so it sits under underwear or a bikini line, plus a scar around the belly button.

| Removes skin? | No | Yes |
| Repairs muscles? | No | Yes, if needed |
| Scarring | Small entry points | Low horizontal scar |
| Recovery | Generally shorter | Generally longer |
A simple self-check
Stand in front of a mirror and gently pinch the skin on your lower tummy. If it is mostly soft fat that springs back when you let go, liposuction may be enough. If you can hold a fold of loose skin, or the skin hangs when you lean forward, you will probably need a tummy tuck to get a flat result. This is only a starting point: a surgeon will assess your skin quality and muscles during consultation.
Can you have both?
Yes. Many patients have liposuction of the flanks and back together with a tummy tuck. This is often called a liposuction and tummy tuck or lipoabdominoplasty. It tightens the front while shaping the waist, but it is a bigger operation with a longer recovery, so your surgeon will check that combining them is safe for you.

Frequently asked questions
Will Lipo 360 tighten loose skin?
Liposuction can lead to some skin retraction, but it does not remove excess skin. If you already have noticeable loose skin, removing the fat underneath can sometimes make it look looser.
Is a tummy tuck a weight loss operation?
No. Both procedures are for shaping, not weight loss. They work best when you are close to your goal weight.
Should I wait until I have finished having children?
For a tummy tuck, usually yes. A future pregnancy can stretch the skin and muscles again. See our guide to tummy tuck after a C-section.
